PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE FOR MARCH 2012
With the busy golfing season upon us, I wanted to get
this message out before March 1st so that we could all plan on attending the upcoming events. After March, our
next scheduled meeting won’t be until the Annual Meeting in June at Candler Hills Golf Club.
I want to thank Randy Jones at Williston Highlands Golf Club for the great time
during our February meeting. I was unable to make the meeting but have heard from numerous people that
the food was simply outrageous and the golf course was in great shape. Randy and staff really put forth the extra effort to
make this event special for us and it really showed. The guest speaker, Mike McLaughlin, did a fantastic job educating our
members on the pros and cons of leasing versus buying equipment and explained different avenues for each.
Our
next meeting is scheduled for March 14th at Twisted Oaks in Beverly Hills. It’s been a few years since we
have been back to this facility and host Superintendent Chuck Barclay promises a great time. I’ve been around the course
a few times and it looks to offer a challenge to all golfers. Our guest speaker is scheduled to be Lois Sorenson from the
Southwest Florida Water Management District. Lois will be presenting to us a little information on what the water management
districts do and how they assist us in our daily activities. Lois will also be providing information on drought restrictions
when and if they are enacted. Please plan on attending this very informative meeting.
Unfortunately,
the Golf Best Management Practices training and certification test schedule for March 22nd in Citra had to be postponed.
The Florida GCSA board was struck with some additional requirements that needed to be met by the March 22nd date
and everyone involved felt it was better to postpone this class to a later date and ensure that we are “doing everything
right” rather than cut corners and rush the program. Your FGCSA President, Mark Kann, and fellow board members promise
to get this program finalized and up and running as soon as possible. Stay tuned for more details.
The
Jeff Hayden Memorial Envirotron Golf Classis is once again scheduled for April 16th at World Woods Golf Club. Golf
Ventures is returning as our champion sponsor and will be cooking those wonderful hot dogs, sausages and hamburgers on the
course. Registration forms should be mailed out shortly or you can register on the Seven Rivers website at www.srgcsa.com and still pay via credit card through PayPal. We expect a great turnout this year, so don’t delay
in sending your registration forms back in. Please be sure to include the names and handicaps of each player in your group
to help expedite the process. Also, note the change in address on the registration if you are mailing in your payment. We
are no longer accepting payment through the PO Box in Crystal River. All proceeds from the tournament, raffle and silent auction
fund numerous research programs throughout the state and have a direct benefit on the entire industry. This is one event you
definitely don’t want to miss!
We will not be hosting a regular meeting during the month of May. Our last meeting
for this year will be the Annual Meeting / Vendor Appreciation Day in June at Candler Hills Golf Club in Ocala on June 21st.
Last year’s event was very informative and allowed our members to interact with our vendor membership on new products
in the market and an update of what is to come. Be sure to plan to attend this date and show our vendors the appreciation
they deserve.
I was fortunate to fill in for Jim Shaffer, our external Vice President, at the
recent Florida GCSA long range planning meeting in Orlando. Being my first time attending this type of meeting, I have to
say I was very impressed with the Board in general and of the two FGCSA employees, Joel Jackson and Jennifer Bryan. Both Joel
and Jennifer do an awesome job and deserve a lot of praise for their hard work and determination. Neither one hesitates when
asked to go above and beyond and we are lucky to have two such talented individuals at the helm. I also feel very strong about
our chapter and membership as a whole. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, our members make our chapter
the best in the state through the camaraderie and fellowship we all enjoy. I feel very comfortable speaking with each one
of you and always look forward to hearing your stories, successes and failures. Attending the monthly meetings has always
been an educational experience, and I look forward to many more.
We have a few openings for meeting sites for the upcoming year. Hosting a meeting is a great way to show off
you and your staff’s hard work and dedication. It is also a great way to promote your career and industry to your membership
and staff. If you would like to host a meeting, please contact Danny Cravey to see what dates are available.
On a side note, the Seven Rivers website will no longer
be active beyond June 2012. We have already begun to utilize the Florida GCSA site (www.floridagcsa.com) as a way to pass on information from our chapter to our members. Once you get to the FGCSA site, scroll
over to the “Chapters” tab and down to “Seven Rivers” to get the most up to date information pertaining
to President’s Messages, upcoming events, registration forms and other pertinent information. There is also a link to
the calendar of all state chapter events.
If
you are not receiving any association correspondence, please contact Jennifer Bryan @ 772-334-7515 at the FGCSA office or
via email at fgcsa@comcast.net to update
your information.
Also, please be sure to RSVP for any chapter event by contacting our Program
and Hospitality Director, Danny Cravey. Danny can be reached at 352-629-6229, ext. 1451. If you receive the voice mail, please
leave a message. You can also email Danny at danny.cravey@goldenocala.com.
