President’s Message
– January 2012
Happy New Year!
For many of you, that means a new budget and the money to start or continue projects that have been put on hold. That being
said, I have been hearing many good things about the industry as a whole. Several courses are looking at some sort of renovation
in the upcoming year. Although most of these projects are minor, it’s more than what has been done in recent years.
In addition, I have talked to several Superintendents lately that have reported an increase in rounds over the past few months.
This all is a sign of recovery and I wish each of you a busy and prosperous new year in 2012!
I want to thank Ron Palsgrove over at Summer Glen for the excellent meeting he hosted in December.
We had a great turnout and beautiful weather for golf. The Summer Glen staff did a fantastic job and I think we can all agree
the food after golf was delicious. Those in attendance got an education on education from Joel Jackson as he spoke about reaching
out to your community leaders and public policymakers. Joel had many great points and offered us all insight on how to make
an impact in our industry. Great job, Joel!
One of the things Joel had mentioned was completing the GCSAA Action Alerts. The GCSAA has
an entire staff that follows what lawmakers are doing on the local, state and national level. When legislation comes forth,
either for or against the golf industry, the GCSAA will put out an Action Alert encouraging members of the association to
send emails, letters, etc….to their policymakers. All of this can be done through the GCSAA website with a few clicks
of the mouse. I highly encourage all of you to participate in this as any policy has a direct effect on our industry, career
and livelihood. For the latest GCSAA Action Alerts, head over to the website at GCSAA.org and click on the “Community”
tab. Or, you can also follow the links contained in emails that Joel and the FGCSA staff frequently send out.
Our next meeting
will be held at Continental Country Club in Wildwood on January 18th. Host Superintendent Barry Greenwalt once again promises
a great time. Barry is always a gracious host, and we look forward to returning to Continental for a good time. Barry has
lined up some education, so be sure to mark your calendars for this event. This meeting is the day after the FTGA Regional
Seminar in Ocala, so plan ahead so you can make it to both of these events. If you are not receiving
any association correspondence, please contact Jennifer Bryan @ 772-334-7515 at the FGCSA office or via email at fgcsa@comcast.net to update your information. Also, please be sure to RSVP for any chapter event by contacting
our Program and Hospitality Director, Danny Cravey. Danny can be reached at 352-629-6229, ext. 1451. If you receive the voice
mail, please leave a message. You can also email Danny at danny.cravey@goldenocala.com.
